Mathew Goryl founded Bur Oak Building Co. to bring a more disciplined, transparent, and personally involved approach to custom homebuilding in Southern California.
His background began in the field, framing high-end custom homes in the Chicago suburbs, and developed through managing complex luxury residential projects in demanding markets including Naples, Florida. That combination of hands-on field experience and high-end project management shaped the standard behind Bur Oak: plan thoroughly, communicate clearly, and execute with precision.
FIELD-TESTED EXPERIENCE
Mathew’s early construction experience came through a family framing company in the suburbs of Chicago, working on custom homes in communities such as Hinsdale and Western Springs. That field experience gave him a practical understanding of how homes come together from the ground up, and why layout, tolerances, sequencing, and early coordination matter.
He later worked on complex custom residential projects ranging from historic renovations to modern coastal homes. Those projects sharpened his focus on craftsmanship, water management, building envelope details, material transitions, and the planning required before construction begins.

Bur Oak was built around a simple belief: the success of a custom home is determined before construction starts.
